Creative, positive and "control freak". But sloppy when it is time to relax. That’s how Eric Saade describes himself.

Ever since he, with his stylish and charismatic performance, took the third place in the finals at the Globe with the hit Manboy he has been on everyone's lips.

- In addition to all those who discovered me through the race I probably had a great support from the TV audience from my time at Disney" says Eric.

During the summer of 2009, we could se him as a host of Disney Channel's "My Camp Rock", a Scandinavian music competition that draws inspiration from the channel's hit movie Camp Rock. Eric figured not just on TV that summer: we could also see him as a host for the nationwide contest Julia's Shooting Stars. An event which has its grand finale at Skansen and over the years, included participants as Lisa Nilsson and Peter Jöback.

Then, in August 2009, Eric was contracted to Sweden's most rapidly expanding record label, Roxy Recordings. He has artist colleagues as Orup, Agnes, Malena Ernman, Peter Jöback, Erik Hassle, Sarah Dawn Finer, Le Kid and many others.

- We have listened to Eric for a while now, and having to get to know him a bit more there’s no doubt that he is an artist who fits in the highest divisions, "said Marten Aglander, Roxy Recordings CEO.

Eric Saade mastered all aspects of an artist. He has been writing songs since he was 13 years old and has written songs to his debut-album Masquerade solo or in collaboration with various producers and songwriters such as Fredrikk Kempe, Peter Boström, Alexander Kronlund, Dimitri Stassos, Ginni, and Anton Malmberg Hård Af Segerstad.

- Peter Boström produces. It's a pretty original blend of acoustic drums, hard, almost video game-like 80's synths, epic, classical strings and distorted guitars.

Uptempo songs and the rich ballads complemented by an intimate, stripped-down ballad, "It’s Like That With You", where a lone piano accompaniment highlights Eric's unique voice.

- The first thing I heard when I went into the studio with professional people was that I sounded like someone else when I was singing - my voice was original and full of character. I'm not saying that I sing better than anyone else, but people hear clearly when it is I who sing, "he says humbly.

Eric is not the kind of artistic product that sings the way he is told to sing, or records a song just because it comes from a famous songwriter.

- It's my record and I have the last word. I want to feel that it's a great melody and that I’m able to relate to every song that I sing. Manboy was immediate and easy to digest - it must be, in a contest such as Eurovision Song Contest - but it is perhaps not the kind of song that you discover something new every time you hear it. The album features many songs that are growing.

He has written a song questioning our need for fashion and another on questioning people's inability to let people in behind your facade.

Eric Saade grew up in Kattarp outside Helsingborg, Sweden and quickly got to take responsibility. First, as divorced parents and the second oldest of eight siblings and half siblings. Partly because he more or less had to pull trhough school by himself. But also because he started his career in the music industry at the early age of 13, after having been spotted by a management that had always believed in him (and are still by his side).

- My mental age is probably a bit older than my biological, "he admits. I quickly got to keep a close watch. Maybe it's where my need of control comes from. I find it hard to let go of things and tend, for example, to double check that my manager phoned the call he should, which is not always so popular, smiling Eric.

Eric sang early even though no one else in his family practiced music. Mom worked at the grocery store and the father, who is from Lebanon had his own business.

When Eric was 4 years his parents divorced.

- I was a bit too young to be affected by the separation, but the following years were hard. In particular, discussions about where we would be. During the conflicts, I developed a tendency to pull back and turn off my emotions. To this day I can be affected by negative things without anyone knowing.

The mother was the fixed point, but Eric has always had good contact with his father and his delicious meze dishes is still one of Eric's favorites.

When Eric saw Michael Jackson on TV he got the idea that he would sing. When it turned out that he had the talent the family made something of it. His first stage appearance was at age six, when he sang at his mother's wedding. Since then he has held various musical periods, which included artists as Backstreet Boys and Bryan Adams. Today you can hear the influences in his own songs. Football was Eric's second major interest and remained number one until he got his first record deal at age 15. Today Eric is still a big football fan and Zlatan remains his greatest role model. First, for his ability to make football into a beautiful, playful art form, as much for his ability to focus when needed.

- I am a competitive person, even when it is often only myself I compete against. I get very disappointed when I feel like I haven’t done my best, "he says.

Eric's great body control comes to use in the rather advanced choreography he has in his dance numbers. He calls himself "an entertainer at heart" and always felt most alive when he is on stage, in the meeting with an audience.

After a stressful period having to go back and forth between Skåne and Stockholm, Eric now lives in Stockholm and enjoys it.

- Now I'm in the right place. There is always something to do but I also like to do nothing at all. Having an evening at home watching TV and zapping between channels. My job is often intense and social. Then it might be nice to be alone once in a while, "he says.

After his release of his debut album he has toured the country. And for the second time he is competing in the Swedish Song Contest. There’s no rest for Eric in a while. Future goals include building a long career as treated with respect by both audiences and critics. Sweden is most important but he also bears a dream to break through the favorite country of Britain.

Not since Robyn's breakthrough has a teenager been so ready to take the step up to the highest performers. Eric Saade has arrived. And he is here to stay.
